I literally just stepped off my treadmill or as my friend D calls it, the dreadmill. Seriously, that is the most boring way to exercise. You're looking at the same spot on the wall or out the window or whatever you have positioned in front of your tread. You're not going anywhere. You're indoors, no fresh air, no birds. Ugh. But, sometimes, it is a necessary evil. With three kids and hubs working 2nd shift, it's not always feasible to go outside for a walk/run. This weekend and next are big consignment sale weekends around here. I'm hoping I'll find a great deal on a jogging stroller. As the weather is warming up, getting outside with the boys on their bikes and the baby in a jogging stroller would be a great way to knock out these Saturday independent walks/runs.
As I said, I just stepped off the treadmill. I'm taking this Couch 2 5k running class on Tuesday & Thursday nights at a local park. Saturdays are the independent day. It's an opportunity for accountability & personal responsibility - oddly enough two topics we're starting to really work on with Rocky & Rambo. I'm not going to lie. I did not want to talk. I'm sore from the run on Thursday night. I really just wanted to curl up on my couch and take a nap. Plus, the idea of getting on that dre.. I mean treadmill, blah. What a drag. I did it, though. I walked my 30 minutes at a nice brisk pace, even felt a little sweaty afterwards. And I'm glad I did it. No guilt hanging over me. I did my homework. And how did I pass the time on that solitary machine this time? Ah ha....
I have started a new book. My friend S suggested it when I saw her Friday night. Made to CRAVE by Lysa Terkeurst, president of Proverbs 31 ministries. For some of you reading this, you already may be familiar with Lysa Terkeurst and her work with Proverbs 31. For others, you may have no idea who she is. Either way, I think this book feel into my lap at just the right moment. It's just what I need. This is what the back cover has to say:
CRAVING ISN'T A BAD THING.
Has food become more about frustration than fulfillment? Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman's desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. Author Lysa Terkeurst personally understands the battle that women face. In Made To Crave, she will help you:
- Break the cycle of "I'll start again on Monday," and feel good about yourself today.
- Stop agonizing over numbers on the scale and make peace with your body.
- Replace rationalizations that lead to failure with wisdom that leads to victory.
- Reach your healthy goals and grow closer to God through the process.
I have already read the first two chapters. It feels like I'm sitting down with a girlfriend. One who has the same struggles with food, diet & exercise that I do. Expect to see more reference to this book as I continue on this journey.
