For those of you who may have missed all of my post-race jubilation, the Streetlight 5k was this past Friday night. The weather was perfect. Cool, a little damp from earlier rains and exactly the kind of weather I like to run in. My only goal was to beat my previous time, set a new PR (personal record). I'd say I did that and then some! I felt good the entire race, running stronger than I ever remember running & crossing the 1st mile marker at 13:10 (and I ran almost ALL of that, too!). A side stitch during the 2nd mile bothered me a bit & I took a couple of short walk breaks, but crossed the 2nd mile marker around 26:something. My good friends D & R were both pace runners (D 45:00 & R 40:00) so my goal was to "keep it between the pacers". As long as I beat D, I'd set a new PR. I managed to stay right behind or right in front of R for the entire 2nd half of the race (yay, me!). Hubs had finished well ahead of him with Rocky, so he came back on the course to run the last bit with me. Yeah, he's so not allowed to ever do that again. He's like a drill sergeant and thinks that yelling is a good motivator. It's not, at least not with me. I pounded up that monster hill, despite his annoying verbal assault & crossed the finish line at 42:26. That is roughly 2 1/2 minutes FASTER than my last 5k! YEAH BABY!!!
Triathlon training is going well. I'm on day 1 of week 2. 200 yard swim & 15 minute run were on the agenda today. My goal was to push hard & fast today, to make the short workout worth the effort. It paid off! I ran the ENTIRE 15 minutes! I've never ever run for that long at one shot before! Nice! Hubs & I had to swim in the same lane because of all the camp kids in the pool. This is one instance I like having him around during training, as it helps me get used to the visibility issues you can have when others swim around you. Tomorrow, I have a 6 mile bike ride in the schedule. Hubs is off, so I'm contemplating riding outside early in the morning. I'm going to plot out a few routes on MapMyRun to see what I can come up with.
Workout summary:
15 minute run = 1.15 miles
200 yard swim = 6 minutes
